The Resort Location and Grounds
This is a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, on the west side of the island of Oahu about 17 miles from the Honolulu International Airport. It is also part of the Ko Olina Resort Community & Marina, which features spectacular beaches, a championship golf course, shopping, snorkeling, sports fishing and more. The layout of the buildings and grounds has a "village" feel but on a much grander scale. The grounds are lush with tropical plants, water features-including a meandering river and a waterfall, lava rocks and flowering trees. The resort itself is nestled between the lush green mountains and beautiful ocean waters. This resort is far enough away from the crowds of Waikiki but close enough to enjoy all the wonders of the island. Aulani is the place to stay for a Hawaiian family vacation that immerses you in local culture through the magic of Disney, plus it a perfect way to get away from it all and to focus on just being with your family while being in Hawai'i. In addition this resort is exceptionally welcoming to those of us who are wheelchair bound; the Cast Members will be there to assist you from the moment you enter this resort. Room 534
The room I reviewed was spectacular and was on a par to the other Disney Hotels that I have stayed at in Anaheim and Orlando. It's was elegant and tropical. It was very easy to maneuver my wheelchiar throughout the room. The bed is the right height for easy transfering and there is a hide-a-bed in the couch which will accomodate a companion or your kids; whoever shares the vacation with you! The desk and the lights were accommodating. The lani (patio) has a small ramp which makes it easy to use the patio. The closet does have a low hanging bar and safe but there a problem with the door opening in the hallway and they are looking into solving this issue. I would recommend that you check out the closet access when you check in to be sure that it is accessible. For other information about the room please click here.
The Bathroom
The bathroom is big and has a lot of room to get around. It has a roll-in shower with a fold down bench and grab bars. There is a hand-held shower head that can be tilted to any angle. The sink is very accommodating and has lots of room for your toiletries. The toilet area has a ADA toilet with grab bars. The towel racks are easy to access and there are even two hooks for your robe. Click below to see photos of the wonderful bathroom.
