The Location and the Hotel Grounds

This military-only hotel is located east of the airport on the property of the old Fort DeRussy. It has two towers, the Maile and the Ilima, and between them is a huge open air lobby.  There is a beautiful courtyard behind the lobby that has a huge Banyan tree to escape from the sun for a while.  The hotel  has an Exchange that has almost everything you might need while on vacation, three restaurants, a number of snack bars and a coffee cart, as well as a couple of bars and lounges.  There are two pools, one for the babies and younger kids and one for adults only. They also do have a schedule in the children’s pool where they pull the kids out for 15 minutes each hour so the adults can swim in peace. The hotel is nestled on a 7.2-acre tropical oasis fronting the finest stretch of beach in Waikiki.  It is an easy stroll away from Waikiki Beach and the main district. You can also roll on over to the Ala Moana shopping center and shop your heart out. Click on the picture below to get a glimpse of what this fabulous resort looks like.

Room 1307

I actually stayed in this room and it was very comfortable, large and easy to maneuver around. The desk was easy to pull up to in my chair and work on my laptop. The desk lamp was easy to reach and easy to click on and off at the base.  Also, there is an outlet on the base of the lamp as well as a phone outlet to hook up you laptop or anything you need plug in. There will be two chairs by the desk when you come in the room so have someone move one of them off to the corner of the room. There is a refrigerator in the corner by the sliding door that leads out to the lanai. It easy to open the door to put stuff in the fridge.  The room has two beds one is a queen and the other is a single twin size bed. I used the twin size bed and it was easy to get in and out of and I had a great night's sleep on the firm mattress. The only downside to the room was that the wall lamps over the beds were out of my reach and difficult to work, so I could not even use the grabber I brought along to turn on the lights. So I would suggest that you ask maintenance to move the lamp from the desk or have an extra table lamp to use on the bedside table so you can read at night.  Take a look at the gallery.

The Bathroom of 1307

The bathroom was big and I had plenty of room to maneuver around. The sink was mostly accommodating to my needs with a few exceptions. The outlet at the back of the mirror was not within reach and the hair drier water glasses that were to the right of the sink on selves were out of my reach. So I would suggest that when you check in you ask the bellman to help you plug in anthing that you need to and also move things that you cannot reach to an accessible place. The towel racks were easy to reach and they were all over the bathroom. There is a pocket door separating the sink area and the toilet and shower area that did a nice job keeping the heat in when taking a hot shower but be warned, the pocket door is not water tight and it will not prevent the normal bathing overflow from going out into the sink area. You will need to roll two bath towels and put them at the bottom of the closed door to create a seal so the water doesn't leak out. Don't worry about using lots of towels, the maids all know that this is an issue and they are very accomodating with replacing the towels that you use.  The shower it self is very nice they have a good non-slip bath mat and an adjustable shower head. There is fold down bench that does work but, you need to be careful because it does have sharp edges. The toilet was a nice height and was easy to transfer to.
