The Location and Hotel Grounds
Humphreys Half Moon Inn & Suites is located in Point Loma on Shelter Island. It is San Diego's own Hawaiian style resort on San Diego Bay. This tropical resort-style hotel offers breathtaking views of the adjacent marina and also a view of downtown San Diego. Humphreys Half Moon Inn & Suites is one of the more perfect choices for your visit to America's Finest City. It is very accommodating for those who use a wheelchair. You can go anywhere within the resort as well off site to the many nearby Restaurants that offer a selection of cuisines. Please click on the photos below to check it out.
The Lobby
As you can see, the grounds around the property and off are very accessible. Unfortunately the front desk is high and difficult for you to reach. However, the staff there are willing to help you with anything you need. The lobby has a nice waiting area plus a business and computer center. There is also an accessible restroom to the right of the front entrance. The guest services staff are available seven days a week to help answer any questions and to assist you with every aspect of your trip. Arrangements can be made for tours, dinner reservations, discounted attraction tickets, and much more.
The Room
I was shown room 116 which has two queen beds, a small work desk, two large comfortable chairs and a wet bar. A standing wardrobe serves as a closet although the bar for hanging clothes is high for wheelchair guests. The room has over 300 sq ft of space so there is plenty of room to maneuver around. The patio is enclosed with a bamboo wall and landscaping which provides for some privacy but the area there is quite small. For this particular room, access is easy with an accessible parking space and sidewalk almost adjacent to the room. Humphrey's has an outdoor theater for various live entertainment and this room is very near the stage.
The Bathroom
The bathroom is large and comfortable. There are grab bars on the walls next to the toilet and a phone for your convenience. As you can see, this room has a tub with grab bars on the walls. You will notice that there is a bathchair in the bathroom photo (under the sink) but be sure to request it when you are making your reservation because it is not kept in the room at all times. Also be sure to ask the bell person to move the towels that are over the sink and toilet to an assessible location. If you are travelling alone, I suggest asking management to place the bath chair in the tub for your arrival; it is heavy and difficult to move without some help.
Note: We did look at a suite with a roll-in shower that was nice and big but there were no grab bars on the the walls next the toilet or in the roll-in shower. Please be sure to ask for a regular accessible room if the grab bars would be more helpful to you.
