Hotel's Lobby and ground

If you are a member Of the United States Military and if you or one of your family member who uses a wheelchair, this is the place for you. For a week vacation to Disney World, Florida, this hotel has all you need. The Shades of Green is an excellent hotel, second only to the Hale Koa in Hawai'i (see Hawai'i page). The Hale Koa has a tropical theme to it, the Shades of Green has a mountain log cabin theme to it. From the first day you arrived the staff will be wonderful at getting you situated and comfortable. The hotel has very good accessibility for those traveling in a wheelchair and is especially great for a person like me who uses a power chair. Go to the right from the front entrance and you will see the check-in desk. There you can see they have two low desks on each end of the main check in desk. Here take a look around by clicking the photos.

There is a internet w/ Game computer center with 6 Computer units w/ one printer, that is across the AAFES General Store. Just remember you do need to pay for accessing them by using cash or a credit card. $7.00 for an hour but you need an account so can come back to if you don't use all the hours. Great way to check your E-mail and/or play a game while you love ones rest up or waking up. There Also modal boats you can very easily to control for $1 a token. Just make sure you get over to the parks since it can be easy to get caught up in all this. See SOG's site for more information and clickhere to see their slide show.

Room 1103

It has a very nice disabled room on the ground floor in room 1103.  The room was big enough to hold almost two or three wheelchairs at a time! The T.V. had a remote, which made it easy to access the TV and movie selections. The TV was on top of a four drawer dresser that had a refrigerator in it, it was quiet nice. The room also had a nice size patio that you could access from a sliding glass door and had a nice view of the golf course. If you are in a wheelchair though, you can't go directly out onto the grass from the patio because you could get stuck.

Bathroom of 1103

It had a large bathroom with grab bars in the shower area and by the toilet. The sink counter was at the perfect height and makes it very easy for you to reach things. The only glitch in design was the water leaked from the shower area into the rest of the bathroom. Other wise it was a good bathroom. Also be sure to bring your own soap and shampoo since the shampoo and soap holder are out of your each from the shower chair.

Going from the Shades of Green to Disney World

To get to Disney World's Magic Kingdom and EPCOT you can roll your wheelchair down a sidewalk that goes along the road that leads in and out of the hotel. Then you cross over a two way single lane road to the Polynesian hotel. In the lobby of the Polynesian, there is an elevator to the second level which takes you directly to the loading dock of the Disney World monorail. The monorail is easy to get on with a wheelchair, the staff will put down a ramp and help you on. Just let them know where you'll be stopping as the monorail goes to Magic Kingdom and the Transportation station as well. I did go to the Disney's MGM this time, the way You do it is just get on the monorail to EPCOT, once at EPCOT go through the future world, past the Canada, and United Kingdom pavilions, than just before you cross over a bridge go to your right and down to the boat dock that will take you to MGM (be aware that there is three stops before you get to MGM). Also you can roll on to the boat with no sweat. They even have their own complimentary transportation to the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks for registered guests. Also there are ADA options include ramps and lifts for certain designated routes so you can get in on all the fun.
